Let's get started sharing our ideas now that the coaches academy is over. This should be easier to manage than the emails.

Pam!! This is great! I've never blogged before, one of the few techno. advances that I haven't experienced. Thanks for the idea!

Pam- great idea.... hope everyone joins :)

I'm hoping this works better than email. It should be easier to read through the messages if they are all in a row and open at once.

Oh, by the way did everyone notice that there were a few emails that were the wrong addresses? I think it was Rebecca, Maggie, Jessica, and Kristina, (she's changing emails.) It's correct on our WCA sheet.

Hey girls, I am on here. I don't really blog much either, but this is cool. We need to keep in touch.

I finally caught up with all the e-mails and am feeling inspired all over again. You guys rock! Take care of you!

My boss is out of town for the next two weeks so I haven't been able to tell him about this experience.
I had talk with Liz on Wed after graduation. Some of you probably saw my melt down in the sports bar at the conv center. Found out that I've been playing the "victim" card for quite a while. I rationalized my inability to do anything because of the head coach, or because of the AD. What I really need to do is get my voice heard. I'm working on putting together a week's worth of practice plans to present to the head coach. He doesn't do any kind of planning. I have a new outlook on the practice. I have to do everything I can for the ladies on the team. And part of that is to be organized. I was so impressed with Tia's practice plan. We'll see what he says when I start to organize things. What can he say - but great idea!

Thanks so much for doing this Pam! What a great idea...looking forward hearing what you all have to say:)

This is definitely a great idea! I am looking forward to keeping in contact with everyone. Maybe we can post our podcast....ok I'm only joking : )

Thanks for setting this up Pam! I am glad to hear that you are feeling empowered...you should be and you know that we are behind you. I have been trying to fill my boss in on all of the new ideas sparked at the WCA...my head is still swimming! Looking forward to continuing the great dialogue!

Here are the books I had time to write down. I know both Nancy and Mika said that they give their athletes reading over the summer so perhaps they've got some great titles as well. Please add to the list, and if you know some of the suggested movies pass them along as well.

I guess I have some reading to do! Thanks for all that info Rebecca.

I tried to figure out how to post the latest comments on the top of the page so you don't have to scroll down to see the new ones, and it doesn't look like it is possible. I will try to start a new sub title every so often so this doesn't get too long. The only one open right now is "Welcome." I'll let you know when I add a second one.

Mika said...

Okay, so I'm really new to this blog thing and was poking around on the main site. Pam, did you know that you can make it a "team blog" where you invite us to join and then we can start new posts as well as comment on each other's posts? Might be a good way to sort the comments into threads on different topics. Rebecca, (don't know how to spell Rivka???) thanks for the list of books - I'm always looking for new ones! I will add a few to it when I get back to my office!

I think this is definitely way easier than podcasting. Thank you for setting this up Pam!

I saw my HC for the first time today since I got back and we actually had a somewhat meaningful conversation (usually his side of the dialogue only consists of “that’s nice sweetie” while he stares intently at yet another rockin’ game of online solitaire) yea… so I definitely have some important decisions to make in the semi-near future regarding where I’m at and where I’m going but so far so good…baby steps right? Oh and I am all for a reunion sometime…

On that note, I am actually heading back to Indy later in the week for the USA outdoor championships at IUPUI although I’m not sure if I’m ready for more Indy yet… or maybe it’s the other way around… either way it most definitely will not be the same without my wca girls.

Also- can someone actually verify Maggie's sightings when we were out? Bridgid, Rebecca, April anyone? If so WHERE WAS I?!?! seriously. Alright I’ve probably taken up about 10 pages here so keep the good ideas rolling!

I think I did what Mika suggested and made you all authors. You should have to accept it through an email. If you don't get an email, let me know. I might have entered your address wrong. I will take any suggestions to make this user friendly.

Hi Pam,

I am so glad that you did this. I have never been park of a blog before. My athletes will think I am hip. Also...Wisconsin Parkside was at our homemeet this past spring.
I have been very motivated since my return. I was just made a full-time employee with full benefits. I haven't come across many coaches at my school to talk to about my experience. I spoke with one of our Crew coaches and she was so excited for me. She is going to apply. It has been so great meeting all of you. I hope that we will all stay in touch!

Pam T said...

Congratulation Danielle! Wow, were you surprised? You spoke of things not being that great at your school. It sounded like they didn't appreciate you too much. Things are looking up!

Pam T said...

I started a new post for books and websites. I labeled it library. I copied Rebecca's list from this post so that we can get all of that type of information in one place. Please feel free to start another post if you have a category you would like to start.

Mika said...

Congratulations Danielle! That is awesome! Sounds like a great step forward!

Tessa said...

Danielle! That is such great news...congratulations:)

And Rebecca, great book list...another good one is Mariah Burton Nelson's book on Competition...and yet ANOTHER one...Creative Coaching by, Jerry Lynch.

Dear Molly,

In answer to your question--you were everywhere. ESPECIALLY by the dart board. I've never gotten it in the bullseye once in my life, but you managed. And then you managed to make sure the whole place knew it. Definitely made the "surprising coach" award recipient :)

Also, I miss you guys already! We have camps the next couple weeks and I can't wait to sing the WCA's praises to all of the Bryant coaching staff. I was out for the ol' birthday so this is the first time I have been to a computer since Monday, and reading all these posts makes me wish we had a reunion plan. For someday. Maybe in New England? OR HAWAII! :)

Hi Everybody! I miss you all so much. After my very emotional after interview session. I received a call from the VP the next day. After speaking with her, I decided to take the job. (I feel like such a drama queen) Anyway, I am so glad I did. I am loving every second of my new job.

Thank you to everyone who followed up to see how my interview went and to those who offered words of encouragement when I was a little down. I can definitely say you ladies have my back!

I am transitioning right now. Once I get my new info. I will forward it on to everyone.

We are currently looking for a Head Women's Volleyball Coach. If anyone is interested, please let me know. The school's (Saint Augustine's College) website is www.st-aug.edu. Check it out or pass it on to someone that you think may be interested.

I am so looking forward to next season! By the way is it time for a reunion yet! : )

I have never blogged before. Where did this word come from?

This is cool! Thanks Pam. This is much easier than the podcasting seminar.

Danielle, I am SO HAPPY for you! You deserve it!

I gotta run out. Take care, all.

Congrats Latanya! I'm happy to hear that it all worked out for the best. I was wondering how they were going to let you get away that easily!

Happy Birthday Corinne!! How's it going roomie? I hope you had a great 23rd bday with your man!

LaTanya!!! That's great news! What did the VP say that changed your mind? I hope that you will move into a great situation and you will be welcomed with open arms!

Woohoo!!!

Happy Belated Bday Corrine. I'm off to Madison, WI to play tennis in the Badger State Games. Should be fun. Have a great weekend everyone.

Thank you! I am so pumped right now. Everything just seems to be falling into place. Since I stepped foot on campus everyone has been so pleasant and supportive. They have embraced me whole heartedly.

I love you all so much. I will not let you down. I feel so much support from all of you. You really do have my back. Thank you!

Hey Everyone!

Happy Belated Corrine!

Congrats Latanya!

I have some news also.
I got accepted into Graduate School at Bucknell. I guess all of my B*tching has paid off. My life seems to be coming together after meeting all of you. I am so happy that you all have come into my life.

Wow, way to go Danielle! It's all that positive thinking we do for each other!!

Pam T said...

Hey Ali, thanks for joining us. How were all your travels? Did you recruit some stars?

Bridgid said...

Hello ladies -
I apologize for taking me so long to get into this blogging thing. I think it is a great idea, though. Thank you Pam.

Danielle and LaTanya - Congrats to both of you! I was very happy to hear your news.

Corinne - Happy belated birthday. I'm totally game for a New England reunion (perhaps in RI?!?)

Molly - I will verify Maggie's sightings at the bar...and say nothing more of that evening! I hope you took Indy by storm when you were there without us!

Reading this blog has certainly made me happy. This has been a tough week for me. Our administration doesn't all seem to be on the same page as each other, and as a result of their lack of communication, the teams are suffering. I'm trying to stay focused on what matters - the athletes - but the administrators are really taking the wind out of our sails. I actually spent last night looking through my binder in hopes that I could get a little better perspective, but it wasn't until I read all of your messages that I truly felt better. I am certainly trying to stay positive and weather the storm.

Thank you all for being amazing women! I'm excited to read more posts and keep in touch...
